Of all the Pokemon revealed I feel like Tapu Koko is probably a likely candidate since it kind of looks like a Robot Master. Most of the Pokemon he designed are fairly popular among fans though part of this may be goodwill towards him thanks to having prior popularity due to his work with the Mega Man franchise (one could say he jumped ship at a prime time, huh?) and given the reception to his design I imagine he will be responsible for quite a few Sun and Moon Pokemon as well, though so far none of the designs have been identified as his. Ariga had actually been working for the Pokemon Company as a TCG illustrator since 2011 but Masuda noticed his talent and invited him to straight-up design New Pokemon which seems like an amazing job. Most of these feelings seem to have subsided though post-release thanks to Honedge ending up being such an awesome Pokemon in addition to the fact that the line was designed by a guest designer, Hitoshi Ariga, who designed it and several other Pokemon such as Pangoro. I mean after getting an ice cream and garbage Pokemon it seems like most fans would see a sword as a rather cool and fitting idea, but there were a lot of sore feelings going around at first. Even though it's not an animal I always wanted a Pokemon straight up based on a sword, it's a JRPG trope I didn't mind Pokemon digging into alongside an actual tree monster (which we also got!), so I was hyped at the reveal but quite a few fans were incensed because it's an object Pokemon, and object Pokemon are bad. Honedge was revealed about three years ago during the Japan Expo in France where Junichi Masuda revealed it alongside a video explaining the inspiration of France-and just today Masuda revealed a cool salamander Pokemon for Sun and Moon at the same event. But yeah, I used Honedge during my first playthrough of Pokemon Y and he was easily the MVP of my team, and I imagine he ended up in that role for a lot of players as well. Its movepool is also a bit lame at first though it makes up this at later levels and when you start gaining TMs, eventually ending up with a nice coverage set allowing it to deal with the majority of Pokemon thanks to its high Attack stat. The biggest flaw is its very low Speed meaning it'll pretty much always go last until it picks up Shadow Sneak at Level 20, and its Special Defense is also quite low-these flaws are a bit offset, however, by the fact that it resists the majority of Special-type moves (and of its four weaknesses only Fire and Ghost contain mainly Special moves, with the majority of Dark and Ground-type moves being Physical) so it usually will be able to survive the first hit if you keep it evenly leveled. Now Honedge doesn't really become obscenely strong until it reaches its final form, and when you first catch it it has a few flaws. He's not particularly hard to capture either as while he appears on only one Route it's a rather large mandatory Route and he's fairly common so you'll likely to run into him and if you have any sense you'll definitely want to capture this slick-looking dude. Regardless of what could've been Honedge is probably the best in-game Pokemon in XY, and possibly the entire series, and putting it into your party makes an already easy game even easier. Game Freak nerfed the Steel-type defensively in Generation VI by removing its resistances to Dark and Ghost-type attacks and I wonder if this Pokemon was partially the reason for that change since if they didn't do that it'd only have two weaknesses in Fire and Ground. It eats Steel, and is attracted to them like magnets.Honedge is the franchise's first Steel/Ghost Pokemon, a rather great Typing that gives it four weaknesses, but also nine resistances and three immunities. This Pokemon can curl up into a ball and roll around, shredding anything in its way. The quills are made of complete metal and are sharp enough to scrape steel. When in danger, it can stick its long and sharp quills into the air, and can shoot them out when in feels threatened. Porkuspine normally walks on all fours, but it has been spotted walking on two legs. It has an obese body, with hundreds of skinny, metal quills, which can be shot out of its body. It has a grey face, with two black nostrils, and black eyes, and a closed mouth. Porkuspine strongly resembles a Porcupine. ![]()
